My clients at Spirit Mountain Casino launched their “President’s Day” promotion with a clever offer: Share a last name with a United States president or live in a town, state, or on a street that bears their moniker, and you instantly win $10 in free play!

So how would I go about building a set of visual graphics and advertisements for a promotion that was largely focused on someone’s name? I found an answer by turning to a fun tool that many Presidents of the past used to publicize their own names: campaign buttons. I used Photoshop to create and render each of the buttons used in this poster almost entirely from scratch, and then arranged them across the image along with a custom type logo that I designed myself. The final image was fun, colorful . . . and built entirely upon names.
